on camera left lane blocked by road work there. in this area, stick to the right and you'll get by just fine. 395/i-95 overnight hov lanes shut down. and i'll be back in ten minutes. over to you. today, october jobs report comes out. four days before the election, the bureau of labor statistics announced earlier this week it will release numbers as scheduled. it considering delaying release, and the economy added 114,000 jobs, and unemployment rate fell from . % to 7.8%. president obama will be in ohio when the jobs report comes out. the president will spend most of the day in the buckeye state prosecute returning to the white house tonight. the president returned to the campaign trail yesterday, visiting wisconsin, colorado and nevada. and those are his first events since sandy struck.

mitt romney will spend part of today in ohio. he will start the day in wisconsin. he'll deliver what aides call his closing argument. from there, he heads to ohio and rallies in columbus, and cincinnati. today, your last chance to vote early in maryland. polling centers open from 8:00 this morning until 9:00 tonight. early voting was supposed to end earlier this week. it was extended through earlier today since polling centers were closed monday and tuesday. vote early through tomorrow in the district. polling centers open until 9:00 p.m. today and tomorrow. good news for new yorkers in the dark after hurricane sandy. con edison, the utility company that serve much of manhattan says power should be fully restored by tomorrow. a quarter million businesses and homes are without power. many of them near manhattan, meals and bogs battled bottled

will be distributed. >> yesterday, the mta reopened the system with limited service, stations jammed with people trying to board, leaving many no-to-call for more trains and buses. the subway not running through most of lower manhattan, because stations are still flooded. >> people in new york just trying to get around by car are not having much luck. simply getting gas is leading to lines. if you see monitors behind me, they stretch for blocks, even miles. in storm-ravaged new york and new jersey, people have waited for hours in the gas tanks. a lot of stations closed because of storm damage. a few stations backed up and even rationing gasoline in the two states and spacious starting to run out. >> this guy just cut me, i left a little space, i don't know if i'm going to make it.

>> waiting 2 1/2 hours. >> because of sandy, five oil refineries shut down or forced to work in limited capacity. three of them up and running as normal. the new york city marathon will take place on sunday. the new york road runners announced they will be donating $1 million as part of the campaign to help victims of sandy. con on versy surrounding the race. some felt it was trivial or too much of a burden on police to hold the marathon. but new york road runners say running the race shows the city's resilience. >> if the decision made the decision to cancel this race, there would have been at least as great of con vo tro versy, because this has always been known as the greatest day in the life of the city. >> nearly 47,000 runners participated in last year's marathon, the organization says they are expected up to 20%

fewer runners in this race because of sandy. people are still undecided about whether or not the road runners should continue with the race. a lot of people backing out. a lot of people from our area. >> the police department and mayor says this will not impact the police department and other agencies have to do with the rest of the city as a result the storm that's come through. at the same time, this thing generating $340 million a year for the city, doing that race, is it would be hard not to let it happen i would imagine. >> a lot of people expect it to uplift the city's spirits. 4:36. thanks, but no thanks, new jersey shore power crews turned away help that came from another state. and claims of mismanagement by a board that operates two airports in our area. >> we dip to temperatures below average, but will it

[ earnest ] out of the blue one day, we were told to build a 30-foot stage. gathered the guys and we built that 30-foot stage, not knowing what it was for. just days later, all three shifts were told to assemble in the warehouse. a group of people walked out on that stage and told us that the plant is now closed and all of you are fired... i looked both ways, i looked at the crowd, and...we all just lost our jobs. we don't have an income. mitt romney made over 100 million dollars by shutting down our plant and devastated our lives. turns out that when we built that stage, it was like building my own coffin,

today, first responders from our area will head to parts of west virginia that were pounded with snow. six vehicles from the red cross are headed to the mountainous areas of west virginia, where people have seen three feet of snow. that has not only caused power outages, but also causing flooding concerns as snow is beginning melt. at a time millions are

welcome back. 4:44. news 4 exclusive. we're hearing from the woman brutally attacked inside her northeast washington apartment. the 24-year-old victim was

stabbed more than 25 times and left for dead in her rhode island avenue row home. she was working from home when someone knocked on her door. a man attempted to sexually assault her before trying to kill her. she screamed at the top of her lungs and fought back. >> this guy stabbing me, kicking my face in. and i was just fighting as best i could. i don't remember much following that. but i know it was just stabbing me everywhere. >> surveillance cameras caught clear images of the man. if you know anyone about the case or recognize this man, call police right away. two more suspects tied to nine violent attacks in eastern market are under arrest. the two men are linked to several violent robberies over the last few months. one of the attacks in august

left a young father, thomas maslin in a coma for six days and blind in one eye. three other suspects were arrested in august, due back in court next week. an officer facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting a handcuffed suspect in the back. johnny riley accused of shooting 26-year-old calvin kyle who he pulled over for riding a stolen motorcycle. after he was handcuffed and put in the back of the police car, kyle tried to run, that's when riley shot him. kyle is paralyzed from the waist down. riley will be in court today for a bond hearing. > 4:46. the man police believed threw pipe bombs into three homes is in a montana jail cell. laurence alan stewart was arrested on tuesday. police believe he was targeting his ex-girlfriend and two law enforcement officer who's arrested him in the past.

>> we have taken this very personal. this is a detective and deputy who were targeted, they and their families, as a result of just doing their jobs. and in addition to that, this was an attack on an innocent victim of nedomestic violence. we've taken this very personal. >> no one was hurt on tuesday's bombing. police in montana tried to pull stewart over for speeding. he threw several bombs at the officers during a high-speed chase before they were able to disable his car. he tried to flee on foot but officers caught him. big problems inside the group that runs two of our area airports. the department of transportation says the metropolitan washington airport officials are plagued with "broad mismanagement." employees are accused of exchanging lavish gifts for big

contracts. the group is cracking down on these problems. metro is working on reducing bus driver fatigue as a study shows bus operators fell asleep at the wheel 69 times for the past two years. drive cams activate when the bus hits something or makes a sudden stop. the study shows half of the drivers caught sleeping are work two shifts in one day. driver who's fall asleep on the job are required to undergo medical tests before they return to work. add some time to your metro ride this weekend. some stations will be closed. starting tonight at 10:00, rosalind and cemetery road stations will be closed. buses will replace trains between foggy bottom and courthouse on the orange line. and foggy bottom and pentagon on the blue line. red line, single tracking between twin brook and fwrovner.

up in the middle of streets. bridgepo bridgeport, connecticut, the basements of hundreds of homes flooded. now all of the soming wet belongings are lining the streets there. some residents say the musty garbage and seeage brought to the surface by flooding is simply making them sick. >> it's 4:50. live pictures of new york city outside a subway station, and while con edison says most of the power should be restored by tomorrow, there are still problems today. the commute should be slow. and some subway stations are open, it has been a very difficult commute for some, the mayor saying there needs to be more car pooling because the city still chantedle the traffic. eight or nine of the subway lines that run through new york city out. getting amtrak service so they are able to connect boston to the southern part of the east coast and the new jersey transit system getting a few trains back online. a lot of work to get through and hope there is that they will be

back online by monday. >> city fighting hard. let's check the forecast. tom kiran, a chilly start to our day, tom. >> thankfully, dry weather since yesterday afternoon and evening to help our recovery, locally, clearing up trees and dealing with the aftermath of sandy here. there is the washington monument. mostly clear skies in washington. the past full moon there and to the right, the right is the planet jupiter. a few clouds elsewhere, floating from the north and west. chilly 42 at reagan national. got a bit of a breeze, 5 to 10 miles an hour. winds increase as the day progresses, and the last several hours, a few clouds south of washington and north, but not producing sprinkles like yesterday morning. in western maryland, yes, one snow shower in eastern garrett county. still recovering, many people out there still without power, frederick county, maryland, power out in a few locations.

in the days following hurricane sandy, we heard a lot about the efforts of first responders, what about those responding in a different way? in point pleasant, new jersey, many emts and families have jumped into action, not just for first aid, but cooking days on end. they are making food not just for emts and firefighters, but for residents who lost their homes. many volunteers have been working since before the storm has hit. >> it gives us the energy and strength to carry on our jobs. >> our town is hurting many people need help. >> this is home. >> one couple working there has been there around the clock. didn't ein gven get a chance to how badly their home was damaged until yesterday. don't miss a special telethon. red cross. 4:57. one florida woman proving are you never too old to do anything, including vote. for the first time in her life, 99-year-old rosy lewis cast a ballot yesterday. she was just seven years old when the 19th amendment pass the, giving women the right to vote. lewis was in the 50s when jim crow laws abolished. she is a huge fan of president obama. veterans and their spouses looking for a job may get their break today. the u.s. chamber of commerce holding a hiring our heroes job fair. more than 70 employers will be at joint base anacostia-bolling. runs from 11:00 until 2:00 it has helped find jobs for more than 10,000 veterans and their families. >> great effort there, great service.
